 What To know About The Newly Acting CBN Governor Mr folashodun Adebisi

Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, born on March 7, 1962, is an accomplished professional with a diverse background. He pursued his education at the University of Lagos from 1978 to 1983, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his studies at the same university, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Production Engineering in 1985. In 1988-1989, he shifted his focus to Finance and obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance.

Mr. Shonubi began his professional career as a Consultant Engineer at Mek-ind Associates, where he worked from 1984 to 1989. Following this, he served as a Marketing Executive at Inlaks Computers Limited from 1989 to 1990. He then joined Citibank Nigeria Limited as the Head of Treasury Operations from 1990 to 1993. Subsequently, he became a Supervising Consultant at Agusto & Co. Ltd from 1993 to 1996, before taking up the position of Deputy General Manager, Banking Operations & Information Technology at MBC International Limited in 1999. In the same year, he joined First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited as Vice-President of Operations & Information Technology, where he remained until 2002.

In 2003, Mr. Shonubi joined Ecobank Nigeria Plc as an Executive Director in charge of Operations & Information Technology. Later, in 2007, he assumed the role of Director of Information Technology and Corporate Services at Renaissance Securities Nigeria Limited. He was then recruited by Union Bank of Nigeria Limited, where he served as an Executive Director overseeing Operations, Technology, and Services from September 2009 to April 2012.

From May 2012 to October 2018, Mr. Shonubi held the position of Managing Director/CEO at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc. Since December 9, 2019, he has been serving as the Deputy Governor of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and represents the Governor of the CBN on the Board of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). On June 9, 2023, he assumed the role of Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Mr. Shonubi is a married man and has children.
